Too hot for Facebook. Please donate to the artist’s memorial at https://fundly.com/funeral-burial-funds-needed-for-brian-d-braun
This crazy/awesome guy was willing to go to any lengths to get the shot. He was not only prolific, but a prolific talent. He made my dreams and visions a physical reality, literally changing the way I saw myself in the process. Sure, these photos are beautiful, but they’re also one of the truest expressions of my heart and myself I’ve ever had the courage to put forth. Brian helped me do that. By saying “hell yes” to every concept, by driving an hour out of his way to pick up an unwieldy box full of plastic flamingos, by rolling around on the beach in the hot sun for hours while I vamped and changed costumes, by making me feel totally free and comfortable to try anything I could think of.
That is art. Period. And among my favorite experiences.
Perhaps this is why we all loved him, as volatile and chaotic as he could be at times. He helped us to see ourselves as we wanted to be seen, to have the adventures we wanted to have. He supported our creative visions and preserved our legacies for as long as the photos will be around. We owe him the same.
RIP Brian David Braun.
